Middle of May….this past week was an amazing sun-filled, heat-filled week. There was not a lot of humidity, but there was a lot of warmth. I believe one day was a high of 98 degrees. Now, I am by no means complaining. I took the top off of my Jeep, had Jeep hair, don’t care, and found myself drinking more water then normal, because sweating was like my job. Did I mention that the A/C in my home took a break from working? Windows open and thankfully a breeze.
Truth be told, I love, love, love, that kind of weather, the hotter the better.
Many people do not care for the heat, which I do respect, but believe it or not, there seemed to be a lot of complaining about it. Well folks, here you go! Today, Saturday, May 20, 2017, was suppose to start out being sunny, a low 70 degrees and just the perfect May day. We all believed that we had it figured out. What we failed to take into account, is Mother Nature. You know, that being that seems to be the one in control, the one who ultimately calls all the weather shots. Well, as a society, we complained, and her response….rainy day Saturday!
There are many things that we take for granted. There are many moments that we let slip by because we are searching for THAT something, when in fact, THAT something is THAT right now. I am going to use my eldest son as an example. He was a groomsman in a wedding yesterday of a friend who he had gone through his childhood with. What an honor, as he knew it, but as we know, it is also a sacrifice, not only money, but time, as he lives out of state. As he was scurrying around yesterday morning getting everything ready to go celebrate his friend as he married his high school sweetheart, we said our goodbyes and out the door I went. Of course, as a Mom, I texted and asked him to send me a photo or two of him in his tux. (I know, I know, I’m that Mom). His response was, “we are just hanging, not even dressed yet”. My response to him, “take a moment today and just sit back and watch…this is going to be one of those feel good memories someday! Have fun.” Eventually, I received my photo and then a phone call to pick up him and three of his friends. Of course, they all shared a lot of alcohol together, a lot of laughs and one of the greatest things that I heard on the way home was my son saying, “that was one of the funnest weddings ever. It was so much fun and I had the best time ever hanging out with those guys!” As I am typing this, it is truly bringing tears to my eyes, because whether he realizes it or not, he did take that moment and he did sit back an watch and he also made one of the greatest memories of his life, thus far.
So the next time that we feel the need to complain either about the weather, how we look, something we need to do, as a matter of fact, complain about anything, take a moment, focus on your breath and remember, that moment, that sun, that rain, those people, that food, that song, those words etc. are truly a gift!
Enjoy the rain today, it helps the flowers grow!!!!
